Funded
by the UNDP, the Sustainable Livelihood Project was created to
help outer island women use
their skills as handicraft makers to support their
families. WUTMI works to market
these handicrafts outside of the Marshall
Islands and is currently working to develop internet sales. This project
helps Marshallese women to earn much-needed incomes, but also helps to
preserve our traditional handicraft skills.
In an effort to conserve the
environment that is the livelihood of these communities, WUTMI is also
involved in replanting the trees used to create these handicrafts, such
and coconut and pandanus.
